Tie Me Down wasn't forced out of business. We closed due to several reasons; mostly we wanted to focus on family and do different things. We had a great time running the business. Brady Street was a great place to be at the time.
  • Site of Obenberger Drop Forge, Joe Obenberger wrote 10 years ago:
There were several drop forges run by Obenbergers at the turn of the Century and it gets confusing to sort them out. Even when you are an Obenberger! Geo. Obenberger and Son Drop Forge's sign persisted in this neighborhood until about 1960 - My father, Joseph Obenberger, but not a forge owner, pointed it out to me often when I was a kid. There was also just plain Obenberger Drop Forge, run apparently by John Obenberger, and I've just seen an online photo posted by the Milwaukee Public Museum of a Joseph Obenberger Forge. That's my name, the name of my Father, and the name of my Grandfather. I believe that all of these concerns were founded by different brothers of my Great Grandfather, Albert Obenberger, born in Bavaria, who later served in the 47th Wisconsin Volunteers in the Civil War, and who served three terms in the Milwaukee Common Council before the turn of the 20th Century.
